Experienced Digital Forensic Examiner 1099 Contractor

Elite Digital Forensics is one of the fastest growing digital forensics and cyber investigations firms in the country, and our casework is outgrowing our bench. We are building a hand selected global pool of experienced digital forensic examiners who can step into serious matters and deliver work that holds up under cross examination.

If you are the examiner other people call when the evidence gets complicated, this is the kind of work you will enjoy. Real cases. Real stakes. Homicide, fraud, cryptocurrency theft, intellectual property, family law, corporate misconduct, ransomware, and intrusion matters that move through state and federal courts.

This is a 1099 independent contractor role. There is no W2 employment, no set order of work, and no guaranteed volume. Assignments are offered on an as needed basis to cover overflow casework, and scope, deliverables, and compensation are agreed in writing before a single byte is touched. You keep control of your schedule, your rates, and your other clients.

Why examiners work with us

  • Substantive casework, not clerical review. You own the analysis and the conclusions
  • Scope and pay agreed up front, in writing, every time. No surprises, no scope creep
  • Prompt payment on delivered work, with clear deliverables and realistic deadlines
  • Fully remote and worldwide. Work from your own lab, on your own schedule
  • A firm that backs your findings and puts your expertise in front of counsel and the court
  • Long term relationships. Strong examiners get called again and again as volume grows

Engagement model

  • 1099 independent contractor, remote, worldwide
  • As needed overflow casework, no set order or minimum volume
  • Hourly rate or flat fee by scope, agreed before work starts
  • Defined deliverables and deadlines for every assignment

What the work involves

  • Cell phone forensics, including extraction review and artifact level analysis
  • Computer forensics across Windows, macOS, and Linux systems
  • Cloud forensics and account activity correlation
  • Cyber investigations, intrusion review, and timeline reconstruction
  • Report writing that states methodology, validation, and the reasoning behind each conclusion
  • Direct client and counsel communication, from intake through case closure
  • Expert witness testimony as needed, including deposition and courtroom testimony

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience testifying in legal proceedings as a forensic examiner or expert witness
  • Proven casework in cell phone forensics, computer forensics, cloud forensics, and cyber investigations
  • Strong forensic report writing, with findings you can explain and defend under examination
  • Comfortable handling client communication professionally and independently
  • Hands on experience with industry standard forensic platforms, including mobile extraction and analysis suites such as Cellebrite, Magnet AXIOM, and Belkasoft, and network analysis with Wireshark
  • Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain defensible documentation and chain of custody
  • Your own computer system with reliable high speed internet, and the ability to use a VPN to connect to a virtual machine for case work
  • At least one industry certification, or any combination of them, in no particular order: CFCE, CCE, CART trained, SANS GIAC credentials such as GCFE, GCFA, or GNFA, Cellebrite certifications such as CCO, CCPA, and CCME, Magnet certifications such as MCFE and MCMSE, Belkasoft BCFE, EnCE, ACE, CHFI, CISSP, or comparable credentials

You will fit right in if

  • You verify before you conclude, and you are comfortable saying what the data does not show
  • You would rather explain your methodology than hide behind a tool output
  • You treat deadlines and chain of custody as non negotiable
  • You want interesting work without giving up your independence
